Lee, King Richard III, Historical Drama, Universal Horror<br>Here is a very rare and striking original Belgian movie poster from the first release of Roland V. Lee's historical melodrama,<br>Tower Of London<br>. This big budget (for Universal) film starred Basil Rathbone as the future King Richard III of England and Boris Karloff as his fictitious club-footed executioner Mord. Originally perceived as a prestige film for the studio, this movie received mixed reviews and has over the years come to be considered an early entry in Universal Picture's second wave of horror films. This poster is from the 1st release of the film in Belgium probably in late 1939. It is printed in the larger pre-war format. The artwork is remarkably beautiful and unique to the Belgian release poster. Despite a few minor condition issues, this poster is in great shape after 81 years. Of course, it could benefit from a bit of restoration and backing, but it is not necessary. This posters displays well as is. Some overall yellowing to paper especially at the four major fold lines. No visible fold separations. A few bumps and dings around the white borders.
